Sedation & Sleep Dentistry Orangeville

Sleep Dentistry

The whole purpose of sleep dentistry is so that you feel no pain, are comfortable and totally relaxed as you undergo your dental procedure. Specifically for patients who experience a high level of anxiety or fear, sleep dentistry is also for patients:

  • who previously experienced a traumatic dental visit
  • have a severe gag reflex
  • with very sensitive teeth
  • with extensive dental problems
  • who have difficulty with local anesthesia

There are three levels of sedation dentistry: general anesthesia (patient is completely unconscious), deep sedation (patient is in a deep sleep-like state with faster recovery time) and conscious sedation (patient is responsive but unaware).

Pre-appointment
You will be advised at your consultation if you will require a physical examination to determine whether you are eligible to undergo anesthesia.

Post-appointment
After the procedure, you will need someone to take you home. It’s also recommended that someone stay with you afterwards. Most patients usually require a day or two of rest before returning to their regular routine.

There’s no need to put off dental work because of fear or anxiety. Ask us how we can make your dental visit more comfortable.
